Our Home - Living Room/Breakfast Area

Awhile back, I had decided to do a series of posts on each room in our home...but until recently, I had forgotten about it! Oops. Haha. So...that being said, here's the first post of the series...featuring our living room, and breakfast area. :)

First of all, excuse the quality of the pictures...it was super bright and I couldn't seem to get the lighting right. Anyway, this is the view from the front door. Yeah, I know you are probably thinking, "is that tile all the way through the living room?" Yes. We decided to tile the living room, breakfast area, and kitchen simply because I hate carpet, and the tile is much less maintenance! And boy, has that been nice.

When we built our home, I decided that I wanted to have a mixture of patterns and styles in the colors orange, yellow, light turquoise, and some green. I haven't been able to quite put my finger on what my style is, but some of my friends call it "retro chic." It works. :)

I made the frames above the couch by picking out different patterned scrapbook paper and putting them in frames. Hard huh? ;)

I ordered all of my pillows (except the one you see on the left, it came from Bed, Bath & Beyond) on Etsy! I searched everywhere...but couldn't find anything that I wanted until I looked on Etsy.

Our coffee table and end tables came from my parents...because they got a new set and gave their old set to us. We've really enjoyed them.

This is the view from the breakfast area. We got the furniture that the tv is sitting on for Christmas from my parents. Love, love love it because it has so much storage space underneath!

My grandparents gave us this piece of furniture that I'm currently working on, and it's going to be our pantry when I'm finished. The whole thing looked like the bottom half a week ago. And it's not going to stay here...it will go in the laundry room when I'm finished with it.

And last but not least, here's the breakfast area! We eventually want to get a bigger table that seats more people, but this works for now. Oh and my mom made the centerpiece on the table. She's good at stuff like that. :)

I Love Groupon. And Cupcakes.

I'm sure you have heard of Groupon...and if not here's the deal. After you sign up, you check your e-mail, or the Groupon app on your phone for daily deals on local businesses. Really cool idea right?
Well last week, there was a deal for a local bakery in my town called Taylor Mack Bakery, where I could spend $6 and get six gourmet cupcakes. But, I had some Groupon bucks from where I had referred people, so I didn't have to pay anything. I can't begin to tell you how amazing these cupcakes were! There were several different flavors to choose from, but these are the ones I chose:

This was just plain ole' cake with chocolate icing...delicious!

Red velvet anyone? This one had cream cheese icing to die for!

This one was called "Turtle" because of all the chocolatey caramel goodness! And the pecans were a nice touch too.

This was my absolute favorite of the six. Just plain yellow cake with yummy vanilla, or was it cream cheese icing? I'm not sure, but it was amazing.

This one was a Bailey's cupcake. It didn't really taste like Bailey's to me, and it wasn't my favorite, but it was good. I just had a bite of this one. :)

This is the first one that I tried. Full of chocolate and peanut butter. Chocolate cake, chocolate icing, a scoop of peanut butter, pieces of Reese's cups, and peanuts! Sinful.

I wish I could bake cupcakes that had even half the amazing flavor that these little buddies did. Mmm.

Fill in the Blank Friday

 

1.   The phrase or punctuation I overuse most is    ...I use it wayyyy too much. Seriously, I annoy myself with it  .

2.  Today I am thankful for    Zumba. I am going to steal Lauren's answer for this one, because I exercised for the first time in months yesterday, and it was Zumba, and I'm sore today. Haha   .

3.  My best friend is    my husband  .

4.  A quirky thing about me is     that I still jump up onto the bed when the room is dark. Why? Because a monster might get me of course  . :)

5.  This weekend I     am going to spend time with my in-laws because they are coming to stay with us   .

6.  Something that worries me is   __oh gosh. I worry all the time about little stuff. I know we aren't supposed to worry, but I tend to do it often   .

7.  On my night stand you would find  __my cell phone charger, a lamp, and my C.O. Bigelow chapstick (it's amazing by the way)    .

Wee Bit Wednesday on Thursday

{one} do you wear holey jeans? if so, do you buy them that way?I don't have any right now that have holes in them, but I have before! And yes, I think I bought them that way. :)

{eight} do you know how fast you type?Pretty fast. I haven't tested in awhile, but I think it's somewhere around 60wpm.

Miscellany Monday

1. Cute pup. Last week, I took my boss' son's dog home with me to snap a few pictures of her. She was so wild, haha, but I got several good pictures! Go check out the rest of them over at my photo blog. :)

2. Date night. Saturday night, Ian and I went to Olive Garden for a date night. If you haven't had the Lasagna Rollata I highly recommend trying it! I'm convinced it's the cheesiest thing on the menu. Unbelievable.

3. I'm exhausted today. I didn't sleep very well last night...so I'm hoping today goes by super fast so I can take a nap! Haha.

Fill in the Black Friday on Saturday

1.   I am currently obsessed with       any type of decor with birds, & taking pictures of cupcakes  .

2.  Today I am    excited     because,    Ian and I are about to go on a no technology date to Olive Garden! Yum   .

3.  The age I am is    25     and the age I feel is    hmm...I don't feel old, but I definitely need to work out so I feel better on a day to day basis    .

4.  My favorite place is     my house because it's so cozy! I love curling up on the couch and watching a good movie with the hubby and my sweet pups  .

5.  Something I have been procrastinating is     getting my Alabama driver's license. Is there a law about that? Lol  .

6.  The last thing I purchased was        iced coffee at Starbucks   .

7.  The thing I love most about my home is       my funky style. I call it "retro chic." :)    .

Lilly & Raven Love to Play

When we first brought Raven home last weekend...she was very timid, and scared to death, probably because Lilly wasn't too sure about her at first. But I have to say, she has gotten comfortable, and her and Lilly are BFF now. It's really cute...because Lilly is somewhat protective of her now, which is really sweet. Here are some adorable pictures I got of them playing in the yard on Tuesday evening. Some of them might be a little blurry, because they were running so fast! :)

To say these two were exhausted after this little play date is an understatement!
